Epsom Downs Racecourse, Designer Theo Fennell designs a horseshoe necklace to mark the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
The renowned London‐based jewellery designer Theo Fennell has designed a sparkling limited edition Horseshoe Necklace to mark the first event of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June, the Investec Derby Festival.
The Investec Derby is the leading horseracing event of the summer and takes place on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 June. Having attended the event only three days after her Coronation in 1953, Her Majesty the Queen has a longstanding and close relationship with Epsom Downs.
To acknowledge Her Majesty’s passion for horses and horseracing, Theo Fennell has created the Horseshoe Necklace made with 3 horseshoes and a total of 60 diamonds, to honour each year HM the Queen has reigned.
An additional horseshoe at the back of the necklace has been crafted from a piece of wood taken from the winner’s enclosure at Epsom Downs Racecourse, enabling the wearer to touch wood for luck.
Theo Fennell commented, "It has been great fun to design a piece of jewellery to celebrate the Investec Derby Festival with the Diamond Jubilee of a great Queen. I hope that the result, with the sixty diamonds and the nod to both tradition and modernity, succeeds royally."
The necklace, with a retail value of £6,000, will be available for sale at the Theo Fennell flagship store on the Fulham Road and Theo Fennell concessions.
Raymond van Niekerk, Investec said, “It is only fitting that an event like the Investec Derby partners with a top jeweller like Theo Fennell to create such a beautiful and unique piece. This year’s Investec Derby is going to be even more special than usual and the necklace commemorates this perfectly.”
